The Nightingale Cipher eBook Robert Clear
The Nightingale Cipher is a brilliant historical thriller that revolves around London at the end of a turmoil filled year of 1752. With classic action, authentic dialogue, character dramatization and a truly fascinating plot; The Nightingale Cipher may have been missed by quite a few readers. Expect the unexpected with this novel, as we follow Miss Alice Taylor from Exeter Court to Queen's Square (and everywhere between) as she hears the bells of the surrounding churches sound the countdown to the answers of the nightingale cipher and the identity of the anonymous being only known as "Jupiter". Political intrigue and classic mystery captures the attention of the reader as Mr. Clear weaves a sinister tale that leaves the reader gasping for air on the final page.In the end, I was seriously surprised how well this novel ended. It captured my attention from the first sentence to the final. The action filled scenes never stopped but had this perfect flow that didn't impede on a fascinating story line. The author has a talent with description that leaves a vivid mind racing with the characters as the twists and turns of this novel gallop onward. The only negative that I can report, is the somewhat over exaggeration on a few scenes and slight believability, but those can be forgiven with such wonderful unforeseen dark twists that will catch even the most seasoned reader off guard.

The Nightingale Cipher eBook Robert Clear Reviews
The story started out quite well with the death of Catherine, a mysterious message sent to Alice referring to a person named Jupiter. Had my interest! Than the story started in ernest with a plethora of characters like Mary, Jupiter, Mr. Copeland, the Templetons and Mr Cossiter and so many others that it sometimes became hard to follow who all the characters were. The author would sometimes use their last names and than their first names in another chapter. He would switch from one person's story to another without it being obvious and soon you would realize you reading about someone else entirely. Very confusing at times.
Even though the story had a great plot, an interesting time period London in 1752 and his descriptions were very thorough and conveyed the feeling of London at that time (at least it seemed realistic - I was not born in 1752), I often felt confused with his constant back and forth from Alice's earlier life and her present situation and too much time between her flitting from dark alleys into commons and back to lighted streets, I really got tired at times and wanted to stop reading. The only reason I finished was that I wanted to know how the conflict between Alice and Jupiter would resolve.
Conclusion Liked the plot, the time period and the action, but a bit too much flittering about between characters, overabundance of descriptions that was not relevant to the plot and also needed some more editing and proofing (also of spelling errors and pronouns. Many places the author wrote he where it should have been she - and you had to stop and figure out who they were talking about and than realize it was a pronoun error. Overall an enjoyable read, but it is not an easy read.
P.S. Would have given it a 4 if some of the editing problems were taken care of and the author had better transistions between story lines and characters.
If you wanted to read about a map of London in the 18th century then this is your book. Describing the route one would take from one place to another and describing in minute detail, the street the characters were standing in, was just page filler, completely unnecessary to the story.
Interesting, and kept my interest but because of outside interests was not able to finish. Plan to re-read it this summer
