The Evanescence Fallen Star Series Fallen Soul Series Book 2 eBook Jessica Sorensen

I have been looking forward to this book forever!!!! I was so excited when I got it and I was so sad when it was over. I loved the fallen star series and was excited for this one... were things wrapped up..... yes and no... I felt like things were so rushed... I was under the impression that there would be more then 2 books in the series... and this book rushed through so much that I felt that there was so much that could have be en developed on... and at the end... quick fix it all went back to the beginning... and I am not talking to the beginning of this series... am talking about the beginning. Of fallen star!!! So I read all of it for nothing? The story never happened? What kind of load is that!?! Also the intimacy in this book is a little stronger and more heavy. For me being a 31 year old it is fine... but I did a little research and came to find out that the author has been converting her series into adult series where the intimacy is appropriate for adults. So to me that makes me think that she blurred the lines a little between the young adult and adult series. Also where she is rewritting her fallen star series it would make sense that she rushed through this book to rewrite the others... as I said... I am disappointed with the book... very sad... because it could have been so much better

The Evanescence Fallen Star Series Fallen Soul Series Book 2 eBook Jessica Sorensen Reviews

Before I begin this review I would like to say I am a huge Jessica Sorensen fan. I've enjoyed the entire Fallen Star series and a few other of her books. However, after finishing this book I was left disappointed.

The book picks up right where The Lost Soul left off, the idea of Gemma losing herself to Helena was so good and the primary reason why I purchased the book. The fight to remove Helena from Gemma made me giddy and I couldn't wait to get started. But the conclusion to that problem came way too soon in the book, and the solution to it was so simple I couldn't believe that this was what the author intended to do. To add onto that we never find out what happens to Helena after she's banished back to The Afterlife, we just assume she's stuck there and cannot posses Gemma again. Really? The Queen of The Afterlife is so easily defeated? You would think she had a trick up her sleeve considering she had hundreds of Lost Souls roaming the earth possessing people left and right. The minute she's removed from Gemma' s body her character is dropped out of the book and never heard of again.

And what of Alexander Avery? His demise is just the same as Helena's, maybe worse if you ask me. We learn nothing of Alexander; just that he was Alex's grandfather and he was hooking up with all three Queen Fey sisters. There's no explanation as to why he chose to follow Helena and her quest for world domination over Lucinda or Annabella. He just dies off, never reaching the full potential I know he has to being a good villain in this series. What a waste of a character.

After losing our villains so early in the game we have the rest of the book to deal with, a never ending list of problems that the gang must find solutions for. A list that just continues to grow and grow as the story progresses, even I knew after a certain point not everything was going to be solved and fixed. Some of the problems also had no explanation as to why they existed in the first place; like how Aislin accidentally released Luna. Or why the water faeries never left the lake even though they were never summoned to begin with. Or how the dark powers of Draven completely took over Alex and made him a different person. Too much of the book I feel was focused on things that were pointless, like Gemma trying figure out what the red pendant Helena stole from Nalina was. There are too many issues in the book to ignore over something so petty as the stupid necklace.

Another thing that there was focus on was the relationship between Gemma and Laylen. If Sorensen was trying to hint to a love triangle between Gemma, Alex, and Laylen then she failed miserably. Instead she made Laylen look weaker than he truly is and easily forgettable throughout the whole book. I always knew that Laylen had more than just friendly feelings towards Gemma, so did the characters in this book. When Sorensen shined the light on that fact I was hoping it would make up for losing Helena and Alexander so quickly. Dead wrong. Nothing happens with that concept, nothing! No confessions of love, which I honestly expected since Laylen dies and comes back to life. No fighting or arguments amongst the group, another thing I expected since the suspicion of Laylen' s feelings running deeper than just friendship for Gemma was high around the whole group.

This includes Evan, who barely knows both Gemma and Laylen, but who is still able to call Laylen out on his feelings. There are even chapters written in Laylen' s point of view which was exciting when I encountered one of those first chapters. But none of his chapters contribute to the book nor the potential love triangle. If anything Laylen' s chapters were a waste of digging deeper into his character and of space in the book. Why shine the light on the subject if there were no plans of pursuing it?

The book itself felt like the author didn't really know where to go with this book, so she mashed up a bunch of problems together and then ended it with a huge solution. If that's the case then The Fallen Soul series should have never been written to begin with, it should have ended with the last book of The Fallen Star series. Sorenson is re-writing The Fallen Star series in adult version, I just hope when she hits this series she does it proper justice and consider removing some of the stuff she just had to put in this book.
This book starts off right where the previous one ends. I've read all of the series now..and just read this one last night and all night as I couldn't put it down. Its my favorite one of all so far. The beginning had a lot of action, and thrown at you with all the quick secrets, powers used, loopholes, lots of them. Later in the book you find out why Alex disappeared in the previous books, and now he can't get out of this one and it is changing him in a ver negative way. There is so many problems that are left that Gemma is trying to fix, Alex is gone, she feels alone, although Laylen and Evan, and Alex's sister are with her. She needs to make another choice to save the world again, hopefully she does it but the world will definitely change. Now on to the next set.
This series (well, fallen star...) was the start of my love affair with Jessica Sorensen. Over the entire series I fell so in love with every character (whether loving to love them or hate them). That said, I was a little disappointed. Mostly because there were so many problems that had to be wrapped up so quickly that I spent time missing some my favorite characters. Like a certain tall, blonde vampire, I wish there had been more Laylen... because let's face it, there can never be too much of him. I also wished we got to know Ethan a little better, I felt like he was just an means to an end and we didn't get to really know him, so I wasn't attached at all.

***SPOILER ALERT!*** I almost felt a little jipped that there was basically a rewind button and none of that had ever really happened, so every thing I went through with the characters since the beginning was gone.. I at least wished that Gemma and Alex remembered everything -
Overall I thought it was a good way to end the series, but not a great one... though maybe my problem is that I just never wanted the series to end. Jessica could have written their stories until they were in their 80's and I would still be a loyal reader! (I'm also still crossing my fingers that she'll decided to give Laylen his novella)
I love everything Jessica Sorensen has ever written! Gemma and Alex are my favorite characters! I'm hoping this isn't the last we see of them but if so, what a way to end it! This book, as all the others, did not disappoint!! It had the action, the drama, the life or death decisions & of course the romance! I highly recommend this series & the Fallen Star series to everyone! You'll not be disappointed!!
